Cybernews

I found some very cyberpunk news the last few days.

Hodgekinson's suit

I never heard of Hodgekinson before but I saw her in the news because of this new suit she is wearing.

Hodgekinson in bodysuit

It's a black bodysuit and looks like something straight out of Ghost in the Shell, combining technology with style (and sexiness).

It is well known that women in skintight bodysuits are a staple in cyberpunk culture. Take for example Molly from Gibson's Neuromancer:

"She wore tight black glove leather jeans and a bulky black jacket cut from some matte fabric that seemed to absorb light."

Thight leather and latex have been a part of this culture from the very beginning.

The suit itself just looks futuristic, but combined with the fact that it enhances her abilities as a human makes this very cyberpunk. In Neuromancer they went even further, undergoing surgery to get enhancing implants, but I doubt athletes would still be allowed to participate in compititions if they did this.

Neoliner Origin

The Neoliner Origin

This beauty of a ship is a wind powered cargo ship. Sailing between Europe (the port of Montair and Zeebrugge) and North-America (port of Saint-Pierre, Halifax and Baltimore), it crosses the Atlantic Ocean regularly.

The indstrial look of the ship, the geometric shape af the sails and it being wind powered makes this another great example of recent innovation with a cyberpunk touch.

I think that a ship being wind powered (which is of course a very old mode of transportation), has come full circle and feels very modern again, especially combined with the heavy industrial ship.

This shows that things don't have to feel dystopian for it to be considered cyberpunk. Adapting to situations and being creative with the resources available are also an essential part of cyberpunk culture.
